I've neglected to write about the Germany battle - its enough to keep my units tied up and is gaining me at least an SP each year so that's nice. But it's doing nothing to make me feel better about rising eastern tensions.
After the build phase I decided to send Russia a message that'll either make me or break me:
My friend Slimballovitch,
I throw my self at your mercy and am willing to give you whatever you want in exchange for peace.
As a sign of goodwill, I hope you'll notice that I have built nothing but fleets in order to mount my attack on Turkey. It'll take me a turn or so to get into position but it will happen.
I'd like to argue my case for our alliance in the form of several key points:1) Turkey came out very weak after the demolition of Austria. He only has 6 units to your 8. I'd also like to add my congratulations on your puppetry in this matter. 2) Germany is ripe for the picking. As you're aware, between myself and England, we've made massive strides to remove the German menace from Europe. He would easily crumble with an extra push from you. 3) I know you've had several skirmishes with the blasted English. They've helped me somewhat but are actually more of a nuisance now. They've helped me very little and are really only serving to be an annoyance to you. If you were to move in a more northerly direction, you could have Scandinavia back (which was always rightfully yours in my opionin) as well as the German territory.4) I'll gladly do what I can to help you take Berlin, Kiel and Denmark. I'm sure you understand I have to appear as though I'm still working with the English so I'm going to have to split the remaining with him. 5) To sweeten the deal even more, when the time is right, I'll even let you take my own territory! Munich is your ticket into the mainland proper and it's all yours if you want it. I'll happily vacate without a fight. 6) You don't even need to stab Turkey. I know it's not in your gracious nature to do such things - you merely need to not come to his rescue when he begs for his life. 7) I have been most trustworthy in the past. My lost Galician unit could've reeked havoc running from SP to SP but I chose to remove him from your territory. Please also note that the commanders of that expedition have been tried and executed for incompetence and for marring the proud Italian name.
This turn, I'll be holding all my ground units on your border in place as a sign of goodwill and my fleets will be moving rapidly southwards.
I hope you will see the good reasoning behind my words.
I know from experience that he's not much of a stabber - he's said so himself but for right now, I just need an ally. If I can convince him of my reasoning, maybe at a later date, I can convince him to stab. After all, Turkey will be butting heads with me and should leave his flanks open for Russia. If I can make it too good to resist, maybe I'll have a life line.
